Ingredient Allergens

Recipe Allergens define the allergen categories (such as dairy, nuts, or shellfish) that can be assigned to ingredients and recipes. Setting these up allows you to track and communicate allergen information for customer safety, compliance, and operational transparency. Proper configuration ensures allergens flow through recipes accurately and appears where needed in reporting and documentation.
 
 

Before working with allergens, ensure the following:

Required Setup:

  • Ingredients must exist
    Allergens are typically assigned at the ingredient level and flow into recipes
  • Recipes should be configured (optional but recommended)
    To verify allergen behavior across menu items

Recommended Setup Sequence:

  1. Create Ingredient Allergens
  2. Assign allergens to Ingredients
  3. Verify allergens populate correctly in Recipes
  4. Validate allergen visibility in reports or documents (if applicable)

To add an ingredient allergen:

  1. Go to General Setup on the left side panel.
  2. Click Recipe.
  3. Click Create and Edit Ingredient Allergens.

  4. Click New Entry.

  5. Fill out the information.

  6. Click on Save.

 

To edit an ingredient allergen:

  1. Go to General Setup on the left side panel.
  2. Click Recipe.
  3. Click Create and Edit Ingredient Allergens.

  4. Click the pencil icon on the Action column.

  5. Edit the desired information, once finished click on Save

FIELD DEFINITIONS:
 
Allergen Name: 
  • The label used to identify the allergen (e.g., Dairy, Gluten, Nuts)
  • Appears throughout the system when allergens are referenced
  • Should follow consistent naming standards

Description (if applicable):

  • Provides additional context about the allergen
  • Useful for internal clarification or compliance documentation

Status (if available):

  • Determines whether the allergen is active for use
  • Inactive allergens will not appear for selection

Assignment Behavior (System-Driven):

  • Allergens are assigned to ingredients
  • Recipes inherit allergens automatically from their ingredients
