[Food Management](https://faq.elecate.com/faq/data-items?hsLang=en#food-management) # How to create packages with substitutions: 1\. On the left side panel, go to **Data Items** 2\. Choose **Menu Packages** ![](https://faq.elecate.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Mar-17-2026-05-43-48-9785-PM.png?width=670&height=320&name=image-png-Mar-17-2026-05-43-48-9785-PM.png) 4\. If an existing record was selected, next go to **Recipes Components,** from the **Recipe list of items** add more items or keep the existing ones, to add substitutions go to **order details**, select the item and next to the pencil icon is **the substitution button click on it:** ![](https://faq.elecate.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Mar-17-2026-05-49-07-0137-PM.png?width=670&height=317&name=image-png-Mar-17-2026-05-49-07-0137-PM.png) After clicking on the substitution button, the following window will appear, on here you can add as much as substitution you want for that item, **you can add more than 20 substitutions items for that recipe**:  ![](https://faq.elecate.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Mar-17-2026-07-36-47-9457-PM.png?width=670&height=324&name=image-png-Mar-17-2026-07-36-47-9457-PM.png) Once the substitution items are added to the menu package, do not forget to press on **Close:** ![](https://faq.elecate.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Mar-17-2026-07-40-00-9108-PM.png?width=670&height=405&name=image-png-Mar-17-2026-07-40-00-9108-PM.png) **Next process will be added the recipe items with substitutions to an event:** 6\. Go to **Sales & Marketing** 7\. Once the event is opened, go to **Order Details,** click on **Recipes**, go to the **packages section:** ![](https://faq.elecate.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Mar-17-2026-08-31-18-7893-PM.png?width=670&height=319&name=image-png-Mar-17-2026-08-31-18-7893-PM.png) When packages with substitutions are added to an event, **the** **substitution column will display a field with a drop-down menu**, see the image below:  ![](https://faq.elecate.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Mar-17-2026-08-35-00-0114-PM.png?width=670&height=401&name=image-png-Mar-17-2026-08-35-00-0114-PM.png) When you click the drop-down menu, the substitution items are displayed, allowing you to select the one you need. ![](https://faq.elecate.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Mar-17-2026-09-24-27-7188-PM.png?width=670&height=297&name=image-png-Mar-17-2026-09-24-27-7188-PM.png) One a substitution item is selected, the empty field in the substitution column, will display the name of the item, before closing the window make sure all the items have a check mark, if you want to add all the items to the event: Do not forget to press **Save & Close:** ![](https://faq.elecate.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Mar-17-2026-09-22-42-3985-PM.png?width=670&height=366&name=image-png-Mar-17-2026-09-22-42-3985-PM.png) If you need to update or edit a substitution item in the recipe, click the desired item.
